Read about an architect working on a 170 metre motor yacht project.

Does this attain the unacceptable face of capitalism? If not what in the opinion of members is this limit or should one exist at all?

I reckon anything over 50ft is pushing the "acceptable" face of capitalism.. unless of course it's a home built ferro cemi or welders paradise job../forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Disgraceful!

My own view is that no one should be allowed to have a boat bigger than mine, and everyone elses boat must be smaller than mine. Unless that is so we have rampant inequality in our society. Such inequality is always fostered by capitalism and must be stamped out by the Government's undertaking of affirmative social engineering practices.

The money people would have spent on boats (but including on cars, houses, etc) bigger than mine should be either given to me so I become more equal, or if not it should be donated to Africa or applied to saving whales so that no one gets it.

Curious length!

600 feet, or say 182 metres, is the commonest standard length for merchant ships - quays, piers and locks are built to it (the Panama Canal locks are longer, as they were built to take pre-WW1 battleships).

If you are going to build yourself a private cruise liner, why forego the last 32 feet?

maybe the synod of the C of E commissioned it ... call it the Exodus, and sail off ...

archbish Rowan at the helm ... let's see now, cabin stewards up to the usual standards should keep the american pentecostals amused ... happy clappers providing cabaret ... evangelicals throwing loud hosannahs ... charlie boy on the throne with queen camilla as no pesky prelates muttering about acts of succession ....

Re: Curious length!

We could use that last 32' to house any number of things. A couple of 32' Bav/Jen w/end runabouts. 20 PWC. 10 Zapcats to hold our own race series. The possibilities are limitless<s>

Re: Curious length!

mirelle's extra length will be useful for the amphitheater within which the US episcopalians can feed their brand of non-conforming christians to the lions etc
hope this helps ....

Re: Curious length!

If you are referring to "Le Grande Bleu" it also carries a motor cruiser of similar dimensions on the other side.

Owned by the president of Fiat Cars & berthed in Venice.

I understand bill gates has a yacht, anyone seen it, is it on a website? I think he
uses it for transport to his house in Tahiti.

Re: Curious length!

I thought it belonged to Craig Macaw and, at 349 feet, is (or was - if it has been sold into Europe) the largest yacht registered in the US. His brother also has one which is only a titch at 302 feet. I also believe the "tender" was bigger - like 72 feet.

I think it was purpose built and not a conversion.

It was purpose built. to Stbd there was (is ?) a 60ft Sunseeker and to Port a 62 ft Oyster. The aquarium you can swim in...

Re: Curious length!

When we were in Paxos last year she was wearing an Italian Tricolore and when a party came ashore I got talking to one of the RIB coxwains who told me that it belonged to Fiat.

We passed very close to it a fortnight earlier on the car ferry in Venice on our way to Corfu.

When she was anchored off Gaios she made two other "Superyachts" look like her tenders!
