500 yr old ship found in amazing condition

Just stumbled on this about a shipwreck found off Sweden. Video shows mast and bowsprit still standing; bilge pump, capstan and rudder clearly visible. It would appear to be at a depth of 140m.

I read that as "... bilge pump, captain and rudder clearly visible." More than a hint of "Pirates of the Caribbean"

Well, thank goodness it's been found where it has.
The Swedes are not only big on their history and thus well motivated but also global experts on recovering and inhibiting ancient wrecks on land for future study and pleasure.

On my list, but it might be best to do it soon. There are huge problems with sulfuric acid forming within the timbers (at the rate of 100-200kg per year) and eating them away from the inside, and nobody seems yet to know how to stop it.

I hope this latest discovery gets raised too. Anyone know if that's the plan?

Why do you want to know? Is it to make sure that you do not get the same type? Are you suggesting that the boat was wrecked because the anchor dragged?
If you are, then factors such as length of rode & holding ground must be considered. Otherwise an unfair assessment of performance may be forthcoming, which is not something we could accept on this forum.

The SMB near Sweden has a Fisherman type, clearly visible at the beginning of the video. Looks to me like it's metal with wooden stock and palms (one of the latter missing).

The 2,400 year old NPHB (Near Pre-Historic Boat) would likely have, as far as things I have read would suggest, a lump of rock on a rope. But given the various early technologies that were lost by the time of the dark ages (e.g. mains water and sewerage, central heating, concrete, etc.) it would not be beyond the realms of possibility that it would be found to have something not entirely dissimilar to a Rocna.
