I got back yesterday from a 5 day sailing holiday by myself. I had big plans about heading for the Walton backwaters, then going south to the Crouch, etc. This is what happened.
Day 1 - Wednesday. Motored from my mooring in Lawling Creek out to Osea Island with the intention of punching the tide to reach Bradwell by high tide. Put the sails up, and made the dizzy speed of 0.4 knots over the ground. Saw Tiller Girl go past heading sensibly with the tide (I was in the Leisure 23 going backwards at times). Anchored near Osea to wait for wind, which promptly dropped to zero. About an hour or so later, motored back to the mooring.
Day 2 - Thursday. No wind at first. Picked up at 13:00, so head off down the Blackwater. Had a very nice sail to Brightlingsea.
Day 3 - Friday. Woke up to no wind and plenty of rain. Went back to bed. Went for a wet walk later on. Spent another night in Brightlingsea.
Day 4 - Saturday. Woke to plenty of rain, but F4 wind - hurrah. Sailed across to Bradwell Marina to join the Leisure Owners Association for a meal out. Very enjoyable.
Day 5 - Sunday. Lots of sun, but no wind again. Drifted with the tide up the Blackwater to my mooring. Went home.
A nice break, but lousy sailing. I covered about 30 miles in 5 days.
Prompt loads of emails sayng we had plenty of wind just up/down the coast.
