Hello all,

My boat has the early type 5/8" star drive winches (Lewmar 25) rather than the later, and now universal 11/16". I'm in dire need of a winch handle or two and am hoping someone on the forum may have something floating about I could buy. I've dropped my last handle over the side and no longer have arms like Popeye.

Hoping a good Samaritan will see this! :)

Thanks,

Me too. I bought 2 excellent condition Lewmar 44 winches from eBay. The seller omitted to say that they were 5/8 drive and so caused me a similar problem. I've fabricated a temporary solution by using an angle grinder on an old standard winch handle. I've ground down the star to a 5/8 square and it works fine, though I too are interested in finding the real thing. You obviously have first refusal on anything available but I would be interested in buying one also. Thanks Alan

Thats what I had to do for my last boat's winches. Worked OK for many years. Think they were Barton's.

I've rigged a semi-permanent solution Alan, much as you did. Bought a cheap £16 floating handle on eBay and ground it down to suit. Works a treat!IMG_20170701_1406089.jpgIMG_20170701_1406294.jpg
