I will hopefully be using our Dinghy and 4hp Yamaha Outboard this weekend,

I have never used an outboard before so I have no idea (not even a rough idea) of how much fuel I am likely to need to take with us.

Do any of you have an approximation of how much fuel it would burn per hour?

I would guess around a quarter of a litre per hour when running.

Thanks very much for that info. That surprises me.

So If I take a Gallon container this is likely to last us an entire weekend. Superb.

It was a bit of a calculated guess, so it may be wise to see if anyone else chips in with a similar figure.

I wouldn't want to be the one responsible for you spending the entire weekend drifting in your dinghy /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

lol. Calculated guess sounds good enough to me. I honestly have no idea. If you said a Gallon per hour I wouldn't know any different.

Thanks.

Old calculation we used to use was 1 gallon per hour per 15hp.
Which makes it about 1.2ltrs/hr.

Cheer for that calc. I'll rememebr that.

Looks like i'll be safe with my 1 Gallon container. I honestly didn't know if I needed take a 20L Gerry Can.

We had a new 15hp Johnson in our 16ft fishing boat - it used so little fuel it was ridiculous, maybe 1 litre per hour

Think it depends on how new/old the engine is, and in what state it's in.

4 stroke will use about 1gph per 12-15hp, so a 4hp will use about 0.25-0.4 gph flat out, a fair bit less at moderate throttle - but until you know your own engine take too much rather than too little.

Many Thanks. I decided to take a couple of 1 gallon containers just to be on the safe side.

I have a 4hp 4 stroke mariner. The kids use it on the dinghy for messing about. The 12 ltr tank that came with it will last them a good few days. Just think frugal........
