I need to borrow/rent a 46mm socket and a big wrench for it for a day or two, it will need to be 3/4" square drive, to remove the hub nuts on my wife's horse trailer to fix the stuck brakes so that I can get a pass-out to go sailing again!
I'm in Lewes near Brighton.
Can anyone help or suggest a source please?
Thanks.

when I needed a large socket to remove the fly-wheel retaining nut on my old Yanmar, the local garage loaned me one. Cheaper than buying for a one-off.
46mm is for M30, so I should think most places dealing with commercial vehicles will have one.

Hub nuts ona trailer

Sorry but I can't imagine the nuts are so tight. Normal nut onto a taper bearing will be hardly more than finger tight. Though surely you have tried to remove the nut with adjustable spanner etc. Perhaps some different type of bearing. good luck olewill

Rear suspension hub nuts on an old Mini are 60 lb/ft. Lots of trailers used that (and Austin 1100) stub axle assembly.
The front drive shaft nut on the old Mini was 150 lb/ft. Sometimes the preload on the bearings is set by a spacer between the inner track.

I think 46mm is near enough 1 13/16" which is the size of socket used to undo the front suspension ball joints on the the Mini/1100 range of cars. Usually a deep, six sided socket.
Anyone who has worked on Minis should have one.
Can't think it will have to be 3/4". I've only ever broken on 1/2" drive and that was under extreme duress.

Yes I had a deep socket for mini/1100 front hubs, but that was 1 1/2 wasnt it??

The 46mm socket I have is 3/4 drive. The rear hubs, which came off with the brake drums on VW's were FT. The T bar I have is bent where a scaffold pole was once used to increase the effort when undoing a stubborn one.

Someone said about hub nut being fairly easy, almost finger tight, that would be that case with a taper roller bearing, but a ball bearing with a spacer (like mini/1100/VW/most driven wheels infact) will be FT.

It's a unitary bearing - done up to about 250 lbs.ft. (Excuse the old units!)

Err yes - FT -quite correct1

There does seem to be a discrepancy. My deep socket is 1 1/2" but a site I looked at reckoned it was 1 13/16" (but that was for a Cooper S) I wasn't aware the cup nuts on the ball joints were different sizes.

At the risk of upsetting the touchy-feelies, who's right?

You might well be right Lakey, I did add a question mark to my post, I certainly would not put money on it being 1 1/2
