45ft ish catamaran owners: a question about fuel consumption

We are going through pretty much the same thought process at the moment.
The decision to exit from the boat we love (a 62' monohull that will sip fuel at 9-10 knots but sail even faster) has been made (health / fitness reasons) - but what to transition into is a difficult decision.
Trawler yachts seemed at first to be the solution - but we can outperform any trawler yacht on the market under power with our monohull so - why??
Planing and semi- displacement MB's came next ( Trader 535's etc.) - But fuel consumption - gulp! We could afford it, but never really relax about it, why spend your time trying to minimise your hours at sea to save fuel / engine hours if your dream is to be at sea on a boat?????????
Power cats were the next consideration - giving the ability to do 18 knots rather than 7-8 when you needed to - but (as this is a retirement plan) - when do we actually need to do 18 rather than 8? To escape weather? Has my passage planning become that poor?
So, we are looking at something like a Lagoon 440 with say 54 or 75hp X 2, tiny sail area (compared to our 62' 33 ton mono,) one engine will get you home let alone two, if we cannot sail anyway that is.
I'm almost at the cheque signing stage. Have I missed something due to my advancing years?
