40mm Crimp Tool Wanted!

The best bet may be to get an auto electrical place to do the crimping for you. A proper reliable crimp tool for 40sqmm cable will be hundreds.

When I needed a 50mm one the other weekend I searched everywhere and even the local electrical engineers etc didn't have them.

City Electrical Factors (Google them) have depots all over the UK, and my local branch hired me a crimper that did 25mm - 100mm for £9.50 per day.

Merlin sell this.

I use their earlier "economy crimper", which has grooves to hold the crimp and attached punches which you hit with a hammer to make an indent in the crimp.

Last time I needed it, it was ashore, and so I just used a suitable punch. Providing the crimp is a tight fit on the cable, I think this is all you need.

why crimp ? the best connection is a soldered connection just use a blowlamp and put the stripped cable into the terminal, a little flux , and fill with solder ! best type of conductor you,ll ever have .

Mole wrench crimped it nicely and solder was the belt and braces. It was a heavy mother of a mole wrench but it aint coming out of that terminal!

Thanks for all the advice - would have used a vice if I had a strong enough one on the boat so used the mole grips as suggested - will beef it up with some solder.

Cheers,
J
