on the subject of bowthrusters - if you start cycling with stabiliser wheels, does it mean you have to use them forever?
Another forumite who was berthed across the fairway from me in Royal Clarence a few years ago had a bowthruster which he invariably used a blast of for take offs and landings even in benign conditions. His boat handling always appeared to be enviably precise, graceful and fuss free even in conditions where I'd be stressing about complicated arrangements of lines.
If you have an additional set of boat controls which you know how to use to good effect effect why on earth wouldn't you use them whenever they would help you make a better job of your task?
