Hi all. My hubby & I are looking to get a 40ft boat with a couple of cabins. We’ve looked at Bavaria, Beneteau, four Winn’s all new & a 2013 Sunseeker Portofino. It’s to be used around the Channel Islands and french coast, possibly further & we want the joystick option and probably a hard top. Can anyone suggest anything we may have forgotten? We have about 300k to spend. Thanks.

I assume you definitely want a sports boat rather than a fly bridge boat? Because for a ‘cruising boat’ I’d go flying bridge every time.

Don’t under estimate the cost if retro fitting the joystick option - if it’s IPS it’s a software upgrade but if it’s outdrive to get it you may need new drives or a significant hardware upgrade.

For sports boats you may have missed, Princess V39/40/42 should be looked at if thinking second hand.
Sealine SC42 is all worth looking at - marmite styling (I like it) but loads of space and great accommodation.
New the jeanneau Leader 40 is on par with the others you mention, but I can’t say if it’s better or worse.

Yes it looks nice. Will phone the dealers today & get a price on one or see if any demos or ones a couple of years old about. Cheers ?

I get the hard top re U.K. weather .
Buy how keen are you time and £ wise / travel expenses, then add approx £5 K for a boat shift to U.K. ? —— to looking abroad .
Thinking skip the outdrives / IPS hassle and take on board the collective experience on here and go straight to shafts
Arguably more stable ,comfort wise on a the trips ( CI and France + further afield ) you are currently planning .

Here’s a couple

Google the ranges and prices .

Double the transport costs and hassle because you will never sell either of those boats in the U.K. without giving them away.

So when you are done you’ll need to ship them back down south

You say that but in today’s keyboard world under the tutelage of Mr Google Its does not take long to get background info .
At bail out time just major the add around shaft drives simple maintenance regime .
Aside it’s the enjoyment and thought of the most turn key solution and least hassle passage planning .
If depreciation the issue ( Its is not btw ) then why is the OP considering new ?

Remember they are both HT ,s and shafts . The Austin Parker a real quality head turner for the right reasons shared by many U.K. boaters .
It’s buyer problem shipping it back ,if the £ tanks post Brexit then Johnny Foreigner will flock to the U.K. to clear out the used boat stock , oh hang on a min he’s,already started !

We are ready for the blighters coming over and nicking all our boats there is a cunning plan to stop em leaving ........ Plan A is turning the entire M26 into a lorry park. Plan B is....err........................................................ Just thought how are we all going to get to Gatwick ?, sorry just realised nothing gonna be flying anywhere anyway. :)

If the UK market is tanked how some tell me may be you could say the same for all brands.
To what some British tell me anything over forty feet and away from the Solent is a difficult sell in the UK.
