Following on from Mercury weekend mishaps..........

Boat was lifted on Wed, zoomed down early Wed eve, got the rest of stainless props off as they were a bit damaged. Luckily I had taken spare set of ally props down "just in case"

Those of you who know volvo stern drives, will know that there is a lock bolt down the centre of the prop cone. This had sheared off in the shaft, and came out fairly easily with "Easy outs" stud remover.

Fitted new anodes, new props, propcone & lockbolt and was back in the water Thurs.
As I had booked Thurs off work, I stayed down and did a few more jobs including fixing anchor windlass. The motor ran but gypsy did not turn, but could be turned easily by hand?? Turned out to be a couple of tiny springs had broken in the ratchet and pawl assembly inside the gypsy. Quick trip up the chandlery, and I had a new set. Only took 20 mins to fit and reassemble, and works perfectly again.

Saturday took it for a blast. Left Hamble and went to look at Ark Royal anchored just outside Portsmouth. It's not as big as the Yankee jobbie, but still stirs the old emotions. York was there too, but as someone rightly said, doesn't get the same glory as the carriers, but is just as important.
Feeling a bit hungry, zoomed up to Cowes, and had a pub lunch in the Anchor. Crew watched cup final, I got chatting to a couple of fellow boaters (natch!)

Nice to turn it around so quickly. I didn't want it out of the water for a few weeks while I faffed about.
24hrs all done and dusted....Nice!!

Well done Col. Does she rev right up there again. That was definitely a bit strange. Got home at 01:00 Monday. Thanks to you and Vicky again for a great weekend.

Took the boat out Monday afternoon. Absolutely peed down. Anyhow, coming back into mooring, turned the boat around to get stern on and the bugger seized in forward gear. Panic then ensued as Swmbo tried to get out of the covers which were up due to the rain(Doh!), and rush forward with a fender. Couldn't stop slow progress fowards, and then had a choice. Hmm what do I hit, covered moorings concrete pier or other moored craft. Chose pier hoping Bow fender would take the impact. Nope, the pier was higher than the bow fender and gave me a nice ding in the bow below the gunwhale. Lesson learned, regardless of conditions, get crew out and prepared for anything.
Stripped gearbox the following day and rebuilt and refitted. Seems ok now. I now have cockpit floor out and new water tank & holding tank to be fitted this week after bilge painted.

Thats the bad side H00, it don't go as fast. Infact, it was faster with 3 stainless props than the 4 alloys now on it. Still, new Stainless prop now here, need to get the other 3 repaired, then I can swap them over.

Wasn't quite what I meant Col. Did she pull the revs? I didn't think the alloys would give you the same speed as the stainless.

Yep - Max revs acheived, but only 26knts. Strangely, it's quite fast in reverse.
Must be due to uncupped rear props.
