Hi,

When I popped round there, Navigators Marine recommended me to use these 3M grinding disks for prepping my prop and p-bracket prior to applying Velox : http://catalogue.3m.co.uk/en_GB/GB-...e_Rigid_Disc~XT-RD/XT_Purple_Rigid_Disc~05818.

I can source them from J&L but first can anyone tell me what "Grit Grade XCRS" means in English money ? I haven't been able to find an equivalent in terms of 80 grit etc which is what NM recommend.

Thanks,

Boo2

I think you will find that they are Scotch-Brite "clean and strip" discs.

Have not found out what XCRS means but I dont think it equates to the P number grit grades of sanding discs.

It may be just the disc you need for the job esp if it is what is recommended

The more scratches you put on a prop the quicker it fouls up.

Most suggest the highest standard of smooth polished finish gives the least amount of fouling.

I agree but unfortunately had already cleaned off the prop with too course a grade been improving /polishing it ever since

Does this help at all or have you already accessed this site?

I would think he probably has from the fact that he appears to have given the same link on the original post

Thanks for all the info and advice. As a point of interest, the recommendation to use 80 grit comes from Navigators Marine themselves, in fact thay say to use 80-100 grit and specifically state not to use finer. I think I will follow Vyv's advice and use a sanding sponge rather than a grinder, there's not that much area to cover and I think it'll be easier overall.

Thanks again,

Boo2

I prepared my prop and P-bracket for Velox by hand sanding with 180 grit wet and dry. I would think that neither item lends itself easily to preparation with an angle grinder - too many contours and crevices.

I usually prepare my prop with my Fein oscillating tool which can get into most areas on my prop. It has variable speed and all the usual paper grits available but at one heck of a price if you don't need to use it much.

Some cheaper and fairly similar tools available now.....
