Ubuntu bug 430011 refers. Removing USB MSD modules is reported to work - but isn't much use if you also want to use pen drives and/or external HDD. Some people have reported success installing usb-modeswitch and some with installing it and modifying the associated rules. For some / many people that still doesn't work.
