3G Data Roaming with three?

I think you'll find Tenerife is NOT Spain to 3 - they note that Lanzarote is one of the At Home destinations - they specifically note it separately from Spain but do not note any other Canary Islands - I have no idea why but I suspect there is a good reason so do check... We've used the Feel At home for almost 2 years now with no issues when always abroad - we just turn it off one day a month thus never exceeding the 2 FULL months use that triggers an issue

We been using a Three data sim in a dongle in Spain regularly, since Spain became part of the deal. Never had an issue. I think it states somewhere that the sim has to register on the UK network once every two months or so. We just bring the dongle back with us to the UK and turn it on for a couple of minutes.

'Three' PAYG data SIMs (12GB/12month) are currently £30 direct from 'Three'. (You can pay considerably more - or a few pence less- if you prefer on EBAY).

You don't have to register them, and nothing to stop you having several if it helps with the 2 complete month issue. The one thing I cannot determine is whether you need to activate the SIM in the UK before use in a 'feel-at-home' .......but with a 12 month validity this is unlikely to be a problem anyway.

Just as the phone SIMs won't work in a dongle/mifi, the data SIMs won't work in a phone. However my ancient Skypephone S2 will allow you to use it as a dongle on a PC using a phone SIM! (sadly it will not function on an R36 router).

I did this in France for two years before giving up and now I use a French Orange payg dongle. Using three was fine, but it's slow think slow 3G. You can't stream, large emails take a while and if you like timeout messages then you will be in heaven. I use to use the sim, have a spare ready to go so when one fan out I threw it away.

Now I have payg orange dongle from orange France and it's great. More expensive than 3, but it's 4G and reliable. When we start to spend more time I will sign up for the free (French phone provider) 50GB for €15 a month deal on a rolling contract.

This is my lived experience and not opinion. Hope it helps.

Last year, my OrangeF data sim was
Sim €14.90
and €35 for 3Gb for 6 months
Not cheap, but it ment that I could use it before and after Spain.

"Our fair use policy (see below) means you can use your UK data, minutes and text allowance, free credit or bundles in Home From Home countries for up to 28 days from 23 May until 3 September 2016 (23:59 BST). That’s because Home From Home is aimed at our customers on holidays or short breaks."[/FONT]

I just signed up on 3 getting 30gb data and unlimited minutes for £20 per month which includes 30gb of hotspot tethering. And that works in all their "feel at home" EU countries. The amount of data I get on the phone is pretty irrelevant, it's the ability to turn it into a hotspot for the iPads and smart TV on board that makes it so great. The Tesco's deal is good but no tethering is a pain.

I don't think the tethering works overseas. I also believe you don't get the full 30Gb overseas either.

In practice, the 3 'all you can eat data' is capped at 12GB/month when abroad.
There's also a maximum of 2 months abroad per year/365 days.

took the words right out of my fingers on the keyboard.

Voting pro EU may get rid of this by next year but then why go to spain Solent not good enough ;-)

Your device is a dongle or a mifi of some kind, whereas the sim "seems" to be for a phone with data facilities, rather than a data device.

I have a Three PAYG sim, and they wont allow it to connect if I put in my Huawei Mifi, so worth double checking whther it will work in your device.

Ahh just checked your Huawei E220. device, you may get a screen that says "this SIM is not designed for this device, you may look at our Data Sim plans" Something like that.

In 2014 I used the Three SIM in Hamble and in June used 45GB then in July used 36GB After a trip to Ireland it just stopped abruptly. I then bought an Irish SIM, it worked brilliantly for a day, got in an episode of "whatever" and then the next day it gave me the same screen.

For the UK I now have an EE Data Sim which gives 32GB for £28 and that is about what I need per month. I have my phone for an extra 12.5GB if needs be as I have used it as a Hotspot before and used all the data.

So back to the device Huawei E220 - it may not work but for £20 it is worth taking the risk but just make sure you have a phone that can take the SIM. You may get 4GB or so of tethering so for your 2GB it should be fine.

Hope that helps.

I've got a spare phone with a 3 Pay As You Go Sim as a backup phone. We're off to Spain, (Estepona), for a week from 20th May, so I have just topped up with £40 and plan to buy an All In One Add On before we go. It looks like the most data you can use on Feel At Home is 12Gb, (in the 30 days of the add on), so there is no point in paying £25 for an All You Can Eat Data add on, when it's £20 for a 12Gb add on. We wont come close to using the calls and texts, so they aren't really relevant.

Can anyone who uses Feel at Home on PAYG regularly confirm that I'm understanding things correctly .

Many Thanks

Richard

Nope, tethering overseas is fine in all their feel at home countries and no you get the full GB allowance for tethering, the only wrinkle is that if you have all-you-can-eat data contracts it's limited to 30gb. Three changed their allowances earlier this month to a much more generous setup and frankly 30gb of tethering and all-you-can-eat minutes for £20 is a steal.

Re: 3G Roaming with three?

No you can't use tethering while abroad, full details here
http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Phones/Feel_At_Home
What's not included?
If you have all-you-can-eat data you can use up to 12GB. If you have all-you-can-eat texts you can send up to 5,000 texts. If you have 3,000 or more minutes included in your allowance you can use up to 3,000 minutes.
Numbers that start with 070, 084, 087, 09 and 118 directory services.
Feel At Home is designed for UK residents who are on holiday or business trips abroad, not for extended periods abroad.
You can't use your phone as a personal hotspot (tethering) while you're abroad.
You can’t use your minutes allowance to make calls to local or other international numbers, as you can only use your inclusive minutes to call UK numbers, whether you’re in the UK or a Feel At Home destination.
