Mate of mine has been out of boating for about a year. In previous times, he had a (new) Binliner 33, sold that as he wanted a better finish and interior and got a (new) Regal 28. He didn't like that in comparison as it was in his opinion nowhere near as good at Sea and too small. So, he then sold that too and took his cards home! Anyway, he now misses having a boat and wants one again. This time, he is after a used twin diesel sports cruiser about 35-40ft, to be used in the Southwest UK for coastal Marina/harbour hops and and days at Anchor etc. Needs to accommodate a few overnight stays and have the usual creature comforts. Budget is up to about 120k. He has seen a Sunseeker (Martinique I think) and likes the look of that.

I have been a Raggie for the last 3 years, so have lost touch a bit with the MOBO scene. So far I have suggested he looks at: Fairline Targa, Sealine S/SC, in comparison to the Sunseeker. Perhaps even a Bavaria Sport.

What others would you suggest might be on the list. I get the feeling that the "quality" of the interior is a very important factor now - though he plays this down and says its the overall feel.
 
Targa 43...not very sporty but still gives 34 knots and would be a solid boat for the West Country which has probably choppier waters in comparison to the sheltered Solent type area's and £120k will buy a very good one.

Why do I recommend this?...mine's for sale:)
 
Sunseeker Martinique 39, I bought one as my first boat in December and have already put over 100 hours on her. Great boat!

Thanks, yes she does look very nice. I have suggested he goes and sees this one and has a look at the many others there too as a comparison.
 
Having spent time on various on 35 - 40ft sports cruisers, I have settled on a Cranchi Smeraldo 37. I won't go into the negatives etc. about the others, but the Cranchi ticked all the boxes for me.

Almost 3 years into ownership, I don't intend to change any time soon!

One thing you'd want to change from OE, though, is the canopy. Thankfully, this mod was done before I purchased :)

Call me biased if you wish, but I would have been a Devil's Advocate before purchasing, but I honestly couldn't find fault with the Smeraldo 37. Only thing is that they're not that common as they commanded a premium over the Zaffiro 34, which many people could not condone. (FWIW, the Zaffiro 34 / Smeraldo 37 are a world apart space wise)
 
I'm after a similar thing myself... albeit on a somewhat smaller budget.

Was looking at Sealine S38 - but for a variety of reasons decided against it. I am now looking at S34s (probably too small for your friend) or possibly a S37 (probably too old, but if i found a really nice one at a sensible price).

To mix things up - here are a couple of boats I have seen. Both meet your broad spec, and i think the sellers are reasonably keen

I was going to mention the Sealine S37 last made in 2002 but for £120k you could buy something younger. The Seaplex electrics puts me off recommending the younger S38.
I've had an S37 for 12 years lots of space and in my view much better fitted out against the Baveria or the Cranchi and with the simple KAD43's very reliable with an adequate 32 knots top end
