I had one of these that was completely flat. I charged it for 12 hours - nothing. Swapped the transformer and that didnt seem to work either. So I threw it out. Just heard that these things can take 40 hours to charge from flat. Is that correct? In which case I'm a prat. Only used it once too...

When he pays you you might be able to get a new one.......... I inherited a Ring emergency jump start pack, which had been out of use for two years. When I took it in bits it had a Motorcycle battery in it.I was lucky- I had one left over from our motorbike shop. I check it about twice a year, charge it when the light is red, usually once a year. Never needed to use it but I recon its good insurance.

I must admit I've resisted buying one of these as I could garauntee it would be at home if the boat batteries were flat and then the thing would need an overnight charge before it would be of use! In that time I could bring the batteries home and charge them...

I have been considering bringing alternate batteries home for charging come the Spring, though.

I bought one of these when I had a car that could be slow starting, never needed it for that but...

The tyre inflater is brilliant for caravan/ trailor/ bike tyres (push bike as well),
The 240v inverter is great for charging phones/ laptops when sailing/ at anchor camping.
Have even used it to power the boats lighting on one occasion (do not have battery charging onboard).

Have seen it charge in a couple of hours to 24+ if I recall, as I thought it was a goner to as it took for ever to get to full charge (It had not been totally dead though).

Jump start box

What you get is a fairly small battery in a fancy box with charger etc etc. It is still a lead acid battery (Yet another one) which needs to be cared for and will have a finite life. I would rather spend the money on a proper replacement battery for the car or for a proper second battery set up for the boat. Batteries need to be used and charged and even then have a limited life. I fear most owners of jump start boxes will find that when it is needed the years have gone by and it is also dead. olewill
