3.5 mercury running rough

My 3.5 four stroke Mercury (Tohatsu/Mariner) runs rough and will stall if there is no choke; this means that the jet is blocked; however, where is the jet and is there more than one? any quick fix?

some carburettor cleaner and fresh petrol would be the first "quick" fix.

Endured this on a Tohatsu idem and then took the carb bowl off - shocking amount of crud in there. Cleaned the plug and never looked back.
