2nd Hand advice please.

Am looking at upsizing to a Beneteau Antares Series 9 30' flybridge,which appears to tick all my boxes.
Some reservations I have are as follows.
a)is it top heavy with flybridge etc ?
b)23kts top speed ?
c)will it sit on mud without beach legs ?
I read on this forum that selling a 2nd hand boat at the mo is a trifle tricky but having spoken to a broker at the w/e ref an Antares 9 (i wanted to px mine /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif)he said the 2nd hand market was very good because of the exchange rate .

Any thoughts pos and neg on the boat would be much appreciated,thanks

Well I had a go on one, (or similar) a few months ago and it frightened me to death. Mind a couple of others had sneeked up on the fly bridge behind me. I thort the bloody thing was going to turn turtle.

I think for certain boats, where moving them about Europe is cost effective to the boat price, its right that the exchange rate may help shift some UK boats. I'd be rather sceptical that applies in this case, but maybe someone in Calais wants yours !
Just be realistic in how much a part exchange will cost you, but if it enables you to get the next boat you want, it might be the way to go at the moment. What you dont want , is to have the fun of your new toy spoiled by the hangover of having the old boat sitting on the hard somewhere, unless you can afford to carry it. And only focus on the cost to change, and forget the two seperate prices.

She won't sit on the hard very well.
Deep mud ok.
Although the prop etc is protected by a 'skeg' She will lean an awfull lot unless you are against a wall and take precautions.
The 925 is more a 'cruiser' the 9.8 or summatt is more a fisher/cruiser.
Which one are you looking at?

Had a go in a Series 9.
Good boat.
No experience of the 925 however.
That's the one hlb had a bash on.

About speed.
I see your local is about Lundy.
30 ft planing hull.
Choppy waters.


In other words how often do you expect to go much over 20kts for a long length of time?

I helmed one at 12 kts into a fair old chop no probs.

Don't forget most planing hulls will tilt when aground, legs or not.
Cept those that a 'fat and flat' aft!

Hah so. Your round Lundy. So not much in the way of deapwater harbours and rough seas, especially when beaching.

Think you seriously want to have a rethink. Survival and the boats survival as it hits the beach, need to be nearer the top of your list, rather than speed.

Look what the locals have and get one of them.
