A fellow boater who like me has a pair of these drives mated to ad41's has suggested that when not in use and berthed in the marina you should place your drives in reverse gear as this will stop any potential "critter"growth on the inner cable.
Is he correct?
Many thanks again.

Good question, don't know the answer

But when moored up, I trim the leg fully DOWN so that no growth can grow on the hydraulic trim rams. From what I read these have been known to bust the seals

You have a very good point. Volvo gears push for ahead and pull for reverse so selecting reverse will show the minimum amount of inner cable for critter growth. I will do that from now on. Thanks.

Can anyone find a schematic as to what the original question is referring to?

Is is where the gear linkage goes into the out-drive?

I'm not sure that it will make much difference either way. I've never had critters underneath the box, just water and silt.

A wodge of waterproof grease on the cable end and the linkage once per season does the job.

Oh right, you mean under the cover. Yeah i'm just after giving all the moving parts in there a blob of waterproof grease last week when I was changing my gearoil.

I thought you meant in-front of the drive (ie. between drive and transom shield) where the cable is exposed, but there's no external moving parts there (ie. the cable is covered up)
