29 footer upgrades

I've never really seen the point of pressurised water. I suppose it's necessary if you have a calorifier, did I read somewhere?
The AWB on which I did my DS had a faulty pressurised system, which, due to a leak, required two people working in coordination to fill up all of the bottles and kettles in one go every morning, allowing us to turn the system off again. What a palaver. I was glad to go back to my MAB with its footpump at the galley. Not to mention, a footpump leaves both of your hands free. One to hold the kettle, one to hold yourself.

Thanks for the 'minimum boat' replies but I am of an age when such things do not appeal not to mention SWMBO. Its 2013 not 1320.

Yes Vyv, I was looking at your website on the subject only yesterday. Is there a cheaper alternative to the Johnson C010P5-1 it's 100 quid!

Yes, there is. I thought I had added the info to the website but it seems not. Jaguar and Mecedes cars have an almost identical circulation pump to the Johnson one, so the car can be heated without running the engine. They often come up on Ebay, for example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item23184d1566. This one is £30 but I have seen them for as little as £20.

Well said. Adding a calorifier is one of the most useful modifications that can be added on a boat. It doesn't need to be a super expensive one, the small ones ex GPO vans come up regularly on Ebay for well under £100, quite enough capacity for a small boat. I'm currently installing one in the motor-sailer.

You could even use it with a manual pump to satisfy minimalist desires;)

Looks OK, other than I think you are a little bit short on the pressurised water... you'll need a pump and
an expansion tank (otherwise the pump may well keep cycling), so probably another £100 on top of that.

Yup. New taps may also be needed. The usual "straight through" foot pump taps may be a problem with a pressurised syatem.

I have the makings of a pressurised HW system on the boat, but can't bring myself to do it. Talking to a friend's wife, she said that the amount of water required to shower is proportional to the acreage of skin - " When I was young I could shower in two minutes, now it takes two gallons!" And that's the problem of both the pressurised system and the HW. On a 29ft boat the tankage for fresh water is likely to mean that if you both take a hot shower in the morning, you won't be having tea with your breakfast!

I agree that the amount of water used for a shower is un-sustainable on a small boat. I had a shower on my last boat and never used it. It makes the whole of the boat's interior feel damp apart from turning your toilet paper into a soggy mess. However having hot water available for other purposes without having to boil a kettle is marvellous.
