26' for a grand!

Re: 26\' for a grand!

I think he is a genuine liquidator but it probably costs a fortune to have the boat shipped over here - taxes etc. Have a look on his website - cheap boats over there - just rainbows I think.

Re: 26\' for a grand!

Given the cost of moorings/ marinas and all the other running costs - why would anyone want to buy a small fin keel boat unless they have access to cheap moorings via a club perhaps. I think these prices are entirely realistic, in fact I think most 2nd hand boats are over priced given the volume that Bavaria are pumping out at very low prices.

Re: 26\' for a grand!

Just market economics - two trends are at work.

As the cost of new boats reduces both in real terms and in particular compared to other aspirational assets ( ie houses) it makes boats relatively attractive and easy to acquire. This in turn results in increased demand for moorings and marina space which through supply and demand pushed up those costs. This is evident both in terms of your mooring fees and in how easy it is to buy a boat and how difficult it then to find anywhere to keep it. Therefore the relative cost of mooring the boat vs buying it has increased enormously in the past 20 years, consequently demand for small boats is very low -- why buy one if it costs such a lot just to moor it. Or put another way, from the punter's point of view if he can afford £x thousands for mooring he can afford to buy a bigger boat.

The other factor is of course the cost of new vs used and the trickle down affect of this right through the range - admittedly a very long and minor trickle down once you get to boats of this size.
