Please forgive me if this has been covered before. I did a quick search and didn’t find anything.
I have two 12v bulkhead lights that need to be replaced. I have looked at them on various sites and I have seen 240v ones that are nice but can they be easily changed to accept 12v bulbs or am I being obtuse?
Any help?

Can you point to some examples you fancy?

Bayonet Cap Fittings
BC Bayonet Cap

The bayonet cap fitting is the standard fitting in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, India and most other places the British once colonised. As with the Edison type sockets, the connectors are exposed when the bulb is removed.

B22 - BC Bayonet Cap
The standard size Bayonet fitting for 230 Volt wiring although we stock some 12V & 24V incandescent globes with BC base. Some claim it is slowly becoming extinct but it looks like it will be around for many years to come. We sell an adaptor that allows 2- pin halogen or LEDs to be fitted into a bayonet socket .

That sounds dangerous!

What is to stop you plugging such a 12 volt bulb into a 230 volt fitting? At best a big band!

What is to stop you poking your finger in the socket! At best a loud scream!

The way I see it is the OP has to replace a 12V lamp and the only one he likes in the shops is 240V

Use the adaptors available then fit leds. Seems obvious answer to me.

I’m sorry but I believed that it was self explanatory. The cost of, and limited choice of 12volt compared to 240volt fittings is extraordinary. I had no real knowledge of what could be done to use 240volt fittings with a 12v supply. That is why I posed the question here. However as a point of information. Today I visited a local electrical factors and enquired as to the availability of converters and they told me that it is possible to get GU 10 bulbs for 12 volts. I have ordered four which I will have on Thursday. If they do work I will update to let people know.
