240V to 415V converter

Hmm - cheaper/better to change the lathe motor or get three phase installed in the workshop? Inverters aren't that cheap and you are limited to power (about 3HP max IIRC).

Google 230v to three phase inverter and you'll get lots of hits. Rotary converters are available too.

Hi John,
It's going in my garage where 3 phase (I think) would be expensive to install. I've seen various units from a couple of hundred £s upwards.

That's fair enough - although I note that 'This device is only suitable for motors that are not frequent stop/start.' which if your use of a lathe is anything like mine, is the opposite of what you are doing half the time.

I couldn't see the lathe running and i'm just checking if it's got a clutch like most Colchesters have. The one I've just bought Harrisson M300 and looking at videos, it sounds like it doesn't have a clutch but the motor stops and starts (like yours)

Over on the mig welding forum, this is a common subject and they come up for sale there too. It may be about welding, but there is a lot of machining discussed.
Might be cheaper to fit a single phase motor.
