So Ramsgate have announced their 2023/2024 marina fees = 10% increase on all services.

Berthing 10%
Lift out 10%
Boat Park 10%
Pump out 10%

You get the picture.

It all seems a bit arbitrary but hey, that's what happens when it's owned and 'Operated' by a Council :(

Do you think it would be different (fee-wise) if it was operated by a commercial company? I suspect that 10% will probably turn out to be on the low side.

Considering the 'Facilities' and it being a commercial port, I think 10% is high and part of that will be used as an income to prop up Council shortfalls elsewhere.

Are you moving out? If not they got it right (or undercooked it)

We'll stay this year as we have a healthier slush fund than first thought but probably move next year. I think a 10% increase will see a lot of departures as many owners were muttering as such if it rose by 5%, 3% was the increase for 2021/22.

I am looking to secure a winter deal and spoke with Ramsgate a week or so ago. They weren’t desperate to take on a booking as it happens and said that they’re pretty full and having approaches all the time for annual deals from those leaving other marinas, looking for something more reasonable and over the last couple of years yachts have come back from the continent. They have some capacity for smaller boats but anything over 35 feet not so much.

The problem is a lot of these 10% increases cannot really be justified, but they are jumping on the bandwagon!
My life costs have gone up by at least 10% so I imagine there's have too. Fortunately the retired among us will get a 10.1% rise in a couple of months so not much impact really I should think.

If the OAP is all you have then how the hell can you afford a boat? My OAP will rise but unfortunately the other pensions don't have the same rules. Just remember Rishi screwed you last year.

So that’s broadly in line with inflation. As long as there is no drop in quality I would say that is a hardly surprising amount of increase. At the end of the analysis, they are putting up costs for a non essential pastime. If they held prices the same and cut the budget for social care or street cleaning or whatever, many people would complain at the favours being done to “rich yachties “

whiilst I’m not yet claiming mine I take a close interest. Mine rises by RPI but is capped at 5%. Others may want to check to ensure that any. Rise they are expecting is actually likely to happen

My occupational pension is the worse cpi but the better uncapped - swings and roundabouts but I reckon your rpi will win in the long run.

I agree but what can you do ?
For most things you can shop elsewhere but that's no use if they are all on the same bandwagon.

I've had to accept that my own fees have gone up ...

I want another 6m x 4m pontoon .... existing cost 700 euros, now they want 1000 euros.

My electric bill has gone up ~250%

Cranage / transport 2kms gone up from 50 euros to 80 euros

Its terrible having own mooring channel.

My yard has just announced a 15% increase, but then they are fully and still the best price on the River Hamble. They are offering a 5% discount for a one off payment at the year start, they also offer a 3 month notice contract so flexible if circumstances alter.

Where to though? Is there a competitive alternative locally?

Nearest alternatives.

Brighton. 11-12 M £4.780 PA
Chatham. MDL. 11M £ 5.500 PA.
Ramsgate . 11M £3.800. PA (old rate)

A quick glance at the electric charges suggest that mooring and power charges are getting more comparable by the day !
£ 3.85 + VAT a month administration charge at MDL.
