Just got my invoice for the coming year. Half tide pontoon in Maldon (Marinestore)

£1664 for a 28 footer, electrickery on a pay as you go meter.

A 10.5% rise on last year, seems a bit greedy to me. How are others finding prices?

You could be right but do you know of any others within easy public transport reach from chelmsford? Blind bloke - non driver.

Marconi might be doable. But not walk aboard. Tollesbury is cheap but takes ages by bus. I don't know of any others really. Well, apart from Blackwater marina I suppose, might be cheaper but I doubt it.

Edit. Just looked up Blackwater Marina, over 2 grand, half tide walk aboard. So maybe Marinestore are not that expensive!

It's a bit cheaper because you rent a pontoon from a private owner, so you come to a private arrangement and it's all tide access - though no water or leccy at most of the individual pontoons, hence our move to off-grid the boat.

I think the answer is the Harbour inn, The Bell or if one takes the boat out for a gentle weekend sail, Orford, Pinmill or for more sailing less sleeping but good food, Dunkirk, Oostende, Nieuwpoort.

If the weather is rubbish but you still fancy some time afloat there is the White Hart up the river.

...anchoring off Covehithe and going ashore - if there's a better sandy beach on the East Coast I haven't found it yet. Butley Creek/Aldeburugh is a cracking day sail and it's all with the tide there and back. Of course the kids like time exploring the Blyth by dinghy and dayboat and the lack of police sirens and other traffic near the berth make evenings more peaceful. The Deben is a day sail and there are always free moorings at Ramsholt. It's different strokes for different folks and Southwold works for us, though others would hate it.

People not happy. At first glance it seems not too bad but it's above inflation. declining services and worsening facilities that were designed for a much smaller leisure marina and that are now serving 125 berths, 75 of which are now officially residential and another 25 or so are unofficially residential. Plus now £6 for a laundry cycle for the non-residents and a fee for pump out.
 
Well, that was a nice surprise. I just received an email from Marinestore apologising for a mistake and informing me that the berth renewal is about £1500 for this year. Nearly £160 less then originally quoted. Result.
