2014 Bournemouth Air Festival

Was just about to post asking what the rules are if any for going out and watching from the boat.. Is there any exclusion zone that has to be kept clear?

I am thinking about going out ro watch on the boat, don't know what day yet though.. Guess it will depend on the weather and my available "crew".. :)

We'll be there, not sure which day (perhaps 2) as it is weather dependant.

Fingers crossed the sun will be out!

Sunday looks best but I'll have to go on Saturday (if at all). When I went last year there were marshals on ribs telling where you could/couldn't anchor.

Worth mentioning that the exclusion zone means that you are anchoring in 30 to 40ft of water, unless you go in close to the west of Bournemouth Pier.

sorry if this is a stupid question ...last years show, there was a radio link to the compere of the show ... is there one this year and where to find please ???.......... handy for us watching from the brinny to know whats coming from which direction and when etc etc .. THANKS GUYS ..

Planning to go, weather looks best for Sunday, shame as the Vulcan is only flying Saturday. But two Lancaster bombers will be flying which is a once in a life time thing to see.

thank you sir ......

Please don't call me sir - it makes me feel important :)

I shall be there on Sunday in my white Nimbus Nova 27S [ JESTER ].As a lot of boats tend to anchor very close I tend to stay further offshore and just drift - which menas I will probably end up viewing from the I O W. !

Unfotunately local news reporting that the Canadian Lancaster has engine trouble and will not be flying this week end.

No jumping beans and BBMF cancelled but we still got two Spitfires, Sally B. a Twister and a Piper Cub which could just about make headway against the wind at 1,000'. The Cub does a great display at twilight, doing a brilliant impersonation of C-130 chucking out flares as fast as it can. The Extras also did their routine and were up with the Sparrows for display quality and flying accuracy as usual. RAF Chinook did a brilliant display and put the Navy chopper pilots in the Merlin, etc. to shame (which is as it should be). Cloud forced low level routines from the fast jets (Typhoon, Tucano, Hunter Sea, Sea Vixen as well) but it was still an excellent display from all concerned - in fact I prefer the low-level displays sometimes. Sally B wasn't scheduled to fly to today but they got her airborne to make up for losing BBMF and the Canadian Lanc. All credit to them 'cos every hour airborne is not only bloody expensive but takes life off the engines/airframe.

It was brisk to say the least and it looked decidedly lumpy out there but a half dozen or so boats braved it. Definitely a day for watching from the beach or clifftop for me though. Tomorrow and Sunday especially should be a bit better and by then I imagine someone will have told the commentator that Rolls-Royce didn't make Spitfires.
