Hi we owned a crownline 242 for a few years & it was a good boat well made & good accommodation for a 24' boat. quite heavy for their size which I found reassuring 3000kg dry

we had 250 mercruiser diesel B3drive & saw 32 kts & comfortable cruise around 22-23 kts

no experience of the engine but they seem pretty bulletproof in the cars as are most things vw.It might be worth enquiring about parts backup as iirc vw did a deal with cmd for the supply of their engines etc & I don't know how the parts backup is now

drive should be mercruiser bravo which are fine if looked after & anodes changed regularly

sounds like a good package to me

Is that the same engine as used in the Arvor 250AS?
if so maybe worth looking at a fishing forum.

I know there were reliability problems with the larger CMD VW engine in the 280,
Dont think CMD and VW are an item any longer

Don't know about the marine engine but the 3.0TDI is despised but a friend of mine who reguarly works on VW/Audi's, the plastic water pump and timing chain tensioner being the weak points. I would hope a marine version wouldn't have these.

cant see that being an issue on a marine engine as its usually high miles & iffy servicing that's the cause of the chain problem,A marine engine wont do the hours

Hi - believe VW marine engines various had serious reliability issues. Please note that VW have pulled out of the marine market and spares support I would suspect may be random.
