My air filter is in the process of recycling itself. The intake tube is a pile of rust in the bilge and the rest is more hole than filter. Any suggestions for a rebuild/replacement?

I'm at least as interested in the silencing as filtering, but the budget is practically non-existent.

Thanks in advance

I made this note for myself 5 years ago on a just-in-case basis. I've never replaced the silencer and therefore haven't needed the note but it may give you a start.
Cheers

VP2003 Air Silencer
The original is Mann 41 021 87 211. The required diameter of filter is 51.5mm

A Krone 41 021 87 013 is labelled as a 52mm 'Silencer air cleaner' at this website.

A universal K&N filter (52mm dia/Metal flange) would clamp on in place, priced about £31.

Lots of 2003 engines have been replaced. Why not ask a couple of VP dealers whether they have an old one lying about with a filter?

We fitted a K&N about 4 years ago for about £30. I thought the intake tube on the manifold had an outside diameter of 39mm, so worth checking.

If your on a budget then a walk round a car scrapyard should find you something that is easily adaptable for a couple of quid.
