2-3 hp 4-stroke outboards

I also have the Honda 2hp 4 stroke model.
I like it a lot but stowing it is disappointing as the oil does leek out of it when you lay it down. I now store it at an incline but this is not always possible for those with cramped cockpit lockers. The pushpit is fine.
The five year guarantee is an added benefit but only if you want to get it serviced every year. You have to send a card off to Honda each time you have it serviced which has been stamped by the dealership. I have not looked into the cost of servicing but I suspect this is a very profitable area. I use mine so little that it is not worth having serviced.

The Suzuki or Yamaha 2stroke only weighs, If I remember corrrectly 10 or 11 Kg - Can't remember which one, and it doesn't have a carrrying handle. Almost 2Kg less than the Honda.

I agree, it cost me nearly £80 plus a long drive to the authorized service firm to deliver and again to collect the out board. I did it my self this year, took about 25-35 minutes . The draw back is its messy and you need something to hold the outboard upright (used a board in a workmate with two 1/2 railway sleepers to balance it. An old dustbin worked to put water in and flush it. Again I haven't tried to change seals or adjust tappets, which you are meant to do every few years. But if I get some one to service it every few years to do the big job it will be cheaper or it may be cheaper to run it into the ground and replace it. Indeed showing how to do the slightly higher level of work on outboards such as these would be a good series in PBO (though not popular with the manufactures and service people)

I looked at the Honda at London Boat Show and rejected it as a possible choice on the grounds of the silly liitle bars used for the levers on the trnasom clamps. You can't use a locking tube with a padlock with these as there is nothing to put the padlock through.

My Suzuli DT2 originally had the same arrangement but it was bought before boat crime became common. I found a more modern Suzuki mounting unit, with proper clamp turning handles in a Falmouth chandelry for a tenner so it is now "securable".
