Hi Folks,
Having problems with my 2.2 suzuki. Starts fine and will sometimes run fine. Other times starts, goes about 20 meters and splutters to a halt. I have cleaned the carb checked fuel line and filter in tank. When it stops I have to wait a couple of minutes before it will start again. When it goes it seems to run a bit rough then sometimes speeds up a little all on its own. The fuel is fresh and clean. Had to row the tender a mile back down the river today. Anybody any ideas? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
 
Check spark

Worth changing the plug. Seems to have cured running problems for a number of people.

Sounds like a fuel flow or carburation problem though.
Fuel tank vent?

Carb jets often difficult to clean without poking something through them. Must be something that wont damage them. I use a soft copper wire when necessary.
 
A regular spray with carb cleaner ( two or three times per season if the engine is in regular use) is a good idea. For a first clean, if it's never been done, immerse the jets in the fluid, the top of a coffee jar makes a reasonable container for this process. Then spray into the jet orifice....make sure you're wearing rubber gloves, I keep a box or surgical gloves for this.
 
I had similar symptoms from Suzuki 2.2 I thought it was too much oil in the fuel and drained the tank etc, symptoms continued until I changed the spark plug, now works fine.
 
If you are certain it's not fuel and tried a new plug, the ignition units can fail giving the same symptoms. There is no way to test them, substitution with a new or known good one being the only option. They are not expensive to replace but wise to eliminate all other possibilities before parting with your cash.
 
I had exactly the same problem on mine. Solved by an engineer by fitting a new plug even thought the old one had hardly been used. I now carry two spare new plugs.
 
Had exactly the same problem. main dealer said it had the wrong plug grade, changed it and all is now OK. Dealer said a number of units in the UK had plugs for USA and far East fuel which is different to European fuel and needs a differnt plug. Ring a Susuki dealer, tell him the grade of your plug and see waht he says
