1st ever flotilla holiday-any do's/dont's?

Re: 1st ever flotilla holiday-any do\'s/dont\'s?

SWMBO and I are doing the 'Whole Ionian N-S' over 2 weeks in July in a converted Jaguar.

We normally wear our automatic lifejackets when sailing and would like to take them with us.

Are we likely to have any problem with airlines? Easyjet from Glasgow to Gatwick and Monarch from Gatwick to Preveza.

TIA

I second the Mozzie repellant comments, maybe even a mozzie net to sleep under as some parts of the Ionian islands and mainland are quite marshy, and it's a right pain to have them in the cabin and biting you in the night, but you'll have to have the hatches open for ventilation. Supermarkets out there will have coils to burn in the cockpit etc.

Check with the airline regarding the compressed gas cylinders used on the jackets?
You may not be able to take them due to these gas cylinders.
When I have taken my scuba diving kit, I have had to remove the emergency air cylinder on my stab jacket (BCD)
I know some airlines will accept air cylinders, but they must be totally empty first and left with the valve open. This is obviously something you won't be able to do with your lifejackets.
You may be able to remove the cylinders from the jackets, leaving the inflate valve attached and then purchase the cylinders upon arrival in Greece. But check with your Flotilla/Charter co first if the cylinders are available over there.

I'll second the VHF & HH GPS ... very useful little bits of kit - HH VHF meant we could communicate easily without the "dash" down to the chart table to use the main VHF - it was so useful the lead crew borrowed it too ...

The GPS was excellent - especially for one open passage where there were "magnetic variances" ... and we had a 7 hour motor (don't ask !) - it was easy enough to follow the GPS whilst reading a book!!
