The shaft in my water pump is too worn to be used again so I’m going to buy a full rebuild kit.
I’ve seen the MSK and the Poseidon marine kits, does anyone have an experience of these or any recommendations?

Another quick question, anything better than vinegar for cleaning the bronze pump body?

When you say 'worn' is your problem that one or more of the seals are no longer holding tight around the shaft? If so, a fix worth trying is to visit your local bearing/seal shop taking the problem seal with you, which will almost certainly be a single lipped seal. buy and fit a twin-lipped replacement of the same size, which will provide you with two contact points, both of which will sit at a slightly different location on the shaft; it worked a treat on our ancient MD6A.

Thanks BobnLesley, no it’s the actual shaft that’s worn, it’s got groves in it where the seal lips seat.

Or and if you can't get double lipped seals simply insert a packing piece into the pump recess the seal sits in.

Fit a new seal on top of the packing piece (I used a fibre washer) and doing so moves the seal lip onto an unworn section section of the shaft.

Fixes a leaky pump for a just few quid and works a treat.

DinghyMan of this parish made me a 1GM10 pump shaft in super duplex stainless a few years ago. It should be cheaper and last longer than the one from Yanmar. His website ff-systems.co.uk appears to be down at the moment
but you could try a PM.

Thanks andsarkit,
Full disclosure, I bought the kit this morning.
£100 gave me all the parts in a neat little box, I can rebuild the pump and hopefully get have it done this weekend.
I know it’s expensive but I need to just get it done. I do appreciate the advice though.

I have seen that article, this will be the third time I’ve rebuilt this pump. Last time was in 2018, they are really simple to do.
What’s worrying me slightly is the housing is looking a little worse for wear, hopefully it will be ok.
