Hi there,

So - i have most of the parts and the engine ready to be installed - but cannot find anyone to do the job!
Any leads? Happy to pay - but needs to be someone - pro or amateur who knows his stuff.

Boat is in Essex, UK.

Ideally ASAP start -
:)

French Marine might do an instal only without supplying, they fitted this engine to my partners boat and were excellent.

It can be very straightforward - or not. I fitted a 1GM in place of a Stuart Turner. At the very least you will need to modify the engine beds as the mounting footprint will almost certainly be different from the existing engine. The starting point is to fix where the propshaft flange is because that is something that cannot be changed. You will need new exhaust system, probably new water inlet and filter, antisyphon valve in the cooling water circuit, new fuel lines and possibly a new fuel tank if you existing tank is copper or brass, new single lever controls and cables and probably revamped electrics. New propeller - and hope you have the right gearbox ratio (there are 3 alternatives and you need either the 2.2:1 or 2.6:1 NOT the 3.1:1 as you won't be able to fit a big enough prop). Crucial to fit the correct size prop for the gearbox you have. Almost certainly worth replacing the shaft seal and cutless bearing while you have the engine out.

For somebody who knows what they are doing it is relatively easy as the engine is light and very simple, but do not underestimate the cost of installation parts over and above the basic engine - easy to run up £800-1000, Plus similar in labour.

The 1GM 10 is a common replacement in the 26 although now most would go with the slightly more powerful Beta. You will need new engine bearers. I put in 3" x 3" iroko about 30" long and tapered to fit the hull shape. The step will need to be moved forward about 4". I have been OK re-using the original 3/4" shaft but if you replace the stern gear then it will probably be with 1". A waterlock will fit in the bilge and a siphon break can be located under the switch panel. If you replace the fuel tank the plastic ones have the advantage that you can see the fuel level as they are translucent. Originally the fuel tank was in the stbd locker but could be placed in the lazarette or under the cockpit floor.
The estimate above of £1000 for extra parts is probably on the low side. It is a time consuming job and so labour will be expensive but it is not difficult to do yourself and you will have the advantage that you know the installation backwards.
PM me if you need any more information.
