Hello All,

First post on this forum so please be gentle... :D:encouragement:

So I'm in the process of buying my very first 24ft sports cruiser and, if for no other reason than I'm a geek & DIY fan at heart, I find myself dreaming of the systems and electronics that I could upgrade said boat with.

Ultimately I would like to upgrade everything to an NMEA2000 backbone network, and (longer term) have a couple of MFD's to control everything with.

I have found suitable sensors & adapters for most everything (fuel level, fuel flow, GPS, etc.); however what I still haven't managed to find --> is there anything that would allow me to connect the RPM signal (and others such as Temp, Oil press, etc.) from my 1998 Volvo Penta 5.7 into an NMEA2000 network?

Appreciate any other recommendations on creating/building NMEA2000 networks in older boats.

Thanks!!

There are a couple of companies that do this, both in US and U.K. Maretron come to mind as one that converts analogue engine signals to N2K. Have a look on panbo.com as there is ata and reviews on there in the archive.

welcome to the forum,

check old threads in the mobo section with the actisense and NoLandEngineering keywords.
Some threads probably 2-3yrs old, lots of info!

I'm using a NoLandEngineering black box v.successfully.
You can also go completely hardcore and do it using Arduino's, canbus boards and Timo's excellent libraries on github https://github.com/ttlappalainen/NMEA2000

cheers

V.

I have fitted the Actisense box to my boat with Volvo AD41 engines. Works just fine and was simple to install.

They sometimes, apparently will not work with the existing gauges being in place as well, but mine seems fine.
