hi
i have a 1996 20hp yamaha,quite a rare motor, i think they were only made for 1 year,fantastic motor though.
anyway,on the front panel where the choke is there is a 2 pin socket,i do not know what this is for.
my hopes are that it is an electric out supply so that i can run a spot light while it is running so we can see the posts and stuff on the way out of the harbour when we go out night fishing.
it maybe a service plug in thingy, i dont know.
unfortunatly i cannot find an engine number, sounds dodgy but i`m sure its not nicked, i brought it from a local pastor/vicar type bloke.saying that, it could well be nicked, you know what those types are like!!!!!.
any ideas?
if it is an electric out, whats the plug i need?
thanks
lee

I don't know your engine specifically, but they're usually for hooking up to a battery for electric start and the outboard will then charge the battery. So you should be able to get what your after but with the inclusion of a battery and lead, and the spotlight from the battery...

Give BHG Marine (Yamaha dealers) in Lymington a call they're open today...

i`ll try them thank you. i`m hoping not to use a battery to avoid any extra clutter but i suppose it depends on the output, i dont mind if the light goes dim and bright a bit with the revs.

i do have an all round white navigation light for night fishing, i built it myself from led`s and only needs a 9v smoke alarm battery to run them for ever.
i used to plug it into a pre charged 12 volt gel battery it was a bit too fussy for me.
just trying to keep everything simple but effective.

I don't think you can run them straight of the "generator plug" but a very small 12v motorcycle battery may do the trick if your looking for low output and space saving...

Small battery boxes or amo boxes (drilled and vented) are easily stored in most compartments.
