hi i wonder can anyone help me I'm in need of some wiring diagrams for my 1989 Johnson 70 vro outboard. it was sunk and although i have been able very quickly to wash the engine down and clear out the pistons and crank case of water ,so I'm now able to turn the engine over and have good compression i am not able to wire the ignition switch wired correctly, the only diagram i have nd have wired the switch to and now when i push the choke in the starter turns over . i could also do with a diagram of the main connection block as all the wires (live) have rotted off, have spent hours on the internet and not been able to find the required diagrams ,so I'm either looking in the wrong place or looking for the wrong subject . Please help. Kieron

Most OMC wiring harnesses seem to use the same colour scheme. In my experience you just need to connect the Red/Purple wire that comes from the battery to the yellow/red wire that goes to the starter (usually through the neutral safety switch). You can do this off the ignition switch, just make sure the kill cord is on place.

From your description it sounds like you have the Red/Yellow wire on the A terminal, instead of the S terminal of the ignition switch
