1988+ princess 45 vs 1988+ Mochi 46 fly

Hello All,
I am a newbie on this forum. First time buying a 'proper size' powerboat. Had junks in Hong Kong when young and a Wakeboard boat recently (sold). I have a friend linked to Princess so he is 'biased', but he understandably praises Princess.
I would just like peoples opinions on the above boats, also looking at a P470, P46 Riviera,P388, Neptunas 145,Uniesse Marine 40 and 42.
I understand about getting a survey before buying.
Anyone got any horror stories about the above boats that I should particularly look for. I will be keeping it in the Med.

Where are you going to keep it? Uk then go for the princess - more choice and you actually stand a chance of selling it.
Med then you have a lot more choice.

Of the princess boats you list the 470/480 is the pick of the bunch.
486 riviera is a very old design with little space for such a big boat.

If going med based I would also add to your list

Ferretti 135/150 ( I will confess to some bias here),
Azimut 42/46
Sealine 450 (purely for space - it's like an apartment)

Whats the sealine like as a hull, good seaworthiness? Thanks for the suggestions I will add them to my list! :encouragement:

The 450 hull is perfectly fine - later became the T46.
Many people will tell you that boat x is far superior to boat y but in reality one 45-50ft fly bridge cruiser is pretty much the same as the next.

Hull form does cone into it but almost everything you are looking at will be modified medium v. Weight is probably more key to comfort for this type of boating.

Yup, that's indeed understandable, and many others would agree, myself included.
What you are unlikely to hear in this forum is that Mochi boats of the 80s were even better, in terms of build quality.
In fact, the "true" Mochis (before the yard went bankrupt in the 90s and the brand was afterwards used by Ferretti Group) were not well known outside Italy.
But in spite of that, the yard built some excellent boats indeed - the 46 being one of their most successful models, btw.
It's no coincidence that the designer behind her was Paolo Caliari, one of the fathers of contemporary yacht design.
