Looking at buying a 1985 Bayliner Bowrider with a 85hp Force motor Do you have any comments on this boat or motor been for a ride in it and it has had a problem before with it's impeller but has been fixed. A bit worried about how long before the problem was noticed before fixed what do you think about this boat and motor?

Depends how you want to use it.
Bayliner bowriders are no good in any kind of a sea. The lack of cuddy cabin allows the hull to flex, the windscreens will bang against each other. They offer little or no protection from the weather, and you will find no one will want to sit in bow section unless V hot day. I think the cuddy cabin version is a much better bet.

The Force outboard is the one branded by Brunswick marine, and I believe was part of the OMC line up. You may find getting spares a problem.

By choice, if it must be a Bayliner, go for a cuddy with an inboard, or failing that, get one that has been re engined with a 4 stroke outboard (Honda??)

I had a Force outboard on a Maxum bowrider - and the thing never managed a whole weekend without breaking down....

Bayliner bowriders are ok for what they are meant to do - but I will never own another Force outboard that is for sure.

<hr width=100% size=1>Why can't we work 2 days a week and boat the other 5????

Cols right about bowriders. Not sure what the weather is like in Canada ,but if youve got young children who have been out in the sun all day it can be a long cold wet trip back to the dock in the front or back of a bowrider. Best suited for sunnier climes. Dave.

Used to have a 1985 ? .... Bayliner 1800 Cobra Bowrider with a 125 hp Force. Used it as a ski boat. Did not have any real problems with the boat or engine and it pulled three skiers OK, and easily coped with barefooting.... Some problems with the fixed tank onboard as the fuel filter clogged up frequently during the first couple of months. After a clearout, they ran perfectly for two years until I sold the boat. The 125 was a straight four.... An associate of me had the 85 hp, which was a three cylinder and I seem to recall he had some more problems with the engine. Hull ran OK against sea, but had a tendency to "tunnel" when going with the sea... Plowing through the wake, creating a spectacular spray, which were dis-concerning at first and made for a very nervous drive in following sea.
