I happened to watch the first half of the 1957 film True as a Turtle last night, its a fairly rubbish film!
Early on its set on the Hamble, Turtle is a biggish yacht about which I know nothing. As Turtle weighs anchor, there's glimpses of a skinny motorboat, 32ft, red topsides, that's Merlin, a huge part of my childhood but now chopped up by a vandal masquerading as a boat restorer.
'Liberty', the Gentlemans's Motoryacht is in fact the GL Watson 'Rinansey' owned at that time by Bruce Campbell of Albatross and Christina fame. Its just about the time of the very first Fairey motorboats at Hamble Point, but none are sighted. I did spot an Atalanta. There is an Albatross that features often. Rinansey is currently lying ashore in Italy derelict (I believe).
I'll watch the rest tonight.
