15.8 V charging - alternator shot?

Vic,

I don't have a manual for the Plastimo 1-2-B switch so I may be mis-identifying the terminals. I have attached a picture. AFAIK the top terminal is Battery 2, the right hand one is Battery 1, and the left one is the output (what I assume is the common terminal), which is a single wire leading to the distribution board.

Presumably the absence of any other cable on the output terminal suggests the regulator is machine sensed, not battery.

Thanks,

Rob

That's a cock up, sorry. Where does the heavy starter cable go to ?

Alternator can still be battery sensed, could be connected directly to a battery. look on the back of the alternator, the wire is usually yellow, It will be a very short wire with a spade terminal, connected to the alternator or it will will be connected to a battery. If connected to the battery it is machine sensed, if not, battery sensed.

Years since I had a 1-2-B switch, but that looks strange to me. I'd have thought that the upper terminal was common. Where does the alternator output terminal connect, does it go to the distribution board?
As PR says, where's the starter cable?

My oversight - starter cable is connected to the left hand post, same as the red +ve bus battery, it's the black cable running from the top of the picture. Presumably that's as it should be?

Ah yes, i see it now. If it's wired correctly then that will be the common terminal and the other two will be to the respective batteries.
