This may sound a silly question but I need a bit of advice. I have a 12v push button intermittent switch, ie. only sends current when held in.
I want to use this to turn on & off a small LED light, can I do this using a relay & if so what do I need? I can provide a permanent fused 12v feed to the relay. Changing the switch is not an option as it matches everything else on a panel. :)

It's almost certainly possible to make this work with a cunning arrangement of two or three relays, where one of them switches the other. I haven't bothered to work out an exact circuit. However, it's a common enough need that I bet there are pre-made units out there. Some sort of on-off latching relay.

Thanks

In such a situation I use a Durite 0-728-02 change over relay, also works as a pulse on pulse off relay.

That looks ideal. Am I correct in thinking I would take the pulse feed from the switch to S, wire from 30 to ground & the feed to lamp from 56A?

Thanks for your help :encouragement:

Help! Can't get it to work!

I have a switch that when pressed sends a 12v pulse (I've checked that is working) Have connected that wire to S & 30 to earth, when I press the switch the relay clicks but I can't seem to get an output ??? I want to feed a 12v LED, where do the 2 wires from that need to go?

you have to put a + supply to 56 as well then at each operation of your push button it is switched between 56a and 56b. connect you LED to one of those and -ve/earth

when appropriate the push button can go in the negative earth connection, then a common + supply can go to S and 56
