I would like to get a docking station powered by cigarette socket, is this possible? Having searched on the forums here docking stations are used, but are they mains powered & only used when plugged in at a marina?

I have a Logitech docking station which is powered by batteries or via a converter off the 12V supply. But the batteries seem to last forever, so most of the time I do not bother to plug it in. Sound quality is good for the price.

This is what I was looking for, thanks. My Ipod is a very recent Touch, and the Logitec seems a few years old, would there be any concern it wouldn't work with a Touch 4th Generation?

When buying a Ipod docking station I looked for one that's input was 12v, (the mains plug converted the 240v(AUS), to 12v), I simply then cut off the mains plug & installed a ciggy lighter plug, has worked well.

cheers

Beware the 30pin connector plug, I have had a couple of these break on me now, mind you they get a lot of use. The apple branded plugs are fine but at the price they should be.

The 99p ( pound land) shops have cigar socket plugs with two USB outlets.
You will need the USB-iPod cable or spend another 99p for one....
Seem to charge my iPod, iPhone and smart bike lights just fine.

Not much stuff you can buy for a boat for 99p!

We bought (or rather SWMBO bought me one for Christmas) one of these which includes a dock for an ipod etc. Actually ours is the earlier 500 version but it sounds fantastic and is very neat installed in our saloon. Its got selectable outlets so you can power cockpit speakers or various other 'zones'.

We bought it at a boat show for less than £200 including speakers, before anyone is too shocked at the prices quoted.
