Fitted a water level gauge recently. Only just filled the tank and I find that when I remove electricity, the indicator needle stays hard over at full deflection.

After a bit of a sail, it had gone back to 'zero' (the power is switched off) and again remains on full deflection when I add and then remove electricity.

I am suspecting a faulty gauge. I tested the sender/gauge when out of the tank and all was well.

New gauge needed? (Both were new at the time).

Talked to the UK agent.

His opinion is that there is residual charge remaining when the electricity is turned off, which holds the needle position for a while. Seems to coincide with what I've now observed, with the needle falling back to zero after a while.

Does this make sense?

That was my guess too. I misread the bit where you said that you'd tested it before installing as "you'd tested it separately and it wasn't working"

Wait to see what it does when the tank is half empty... if it remains at the correct reading for a while, before slowly fading away, then I don't see why it should be an issue
