12V Drills

Being an lesser-well-electronically-endowed Kiwi I had trouble following PBO 423 page 50 article on charging 12V drills with a 12V system. I need help on this please. Also can I run my 12V drill directly off the battery?

I once had a battery drill which had built in batteries that died. I removed them and just added a cable which worked like a beaut for years. Some of the drill manufactures actually make a pretend battery with a cable hanging out to power directly off a 12V system but they don't bother telling anyone about it.

The main thing to avoid is long runs of light duty cable as a low voltage at the drill when it is working hard will burn the brushes out. Iif it's an old drill you're not too worried about then give it a go.

I made up a wooden mock battery with terminals either side, an offset guide ,which the battery usually has .puts the + on the right side.When the trigger switch gave up the ghost, I put an on-off-on switch in the handle.Then it did,nt matter which terminal was which.
