12v computers

In Nov. 08 YM a computer was featured called the ALEUTIA E2. Anyone have experience of this product or can comment on its suitability for use on board? The website is not at all helpful. (www.aleutia.com) does not appear to be a shop, more a charitable organisation.

I don't have one but I do have a 12 year old Toshiba laptop running Sea Clear connected to a USB GPS mouse. This has no battery and is pluged into 12volts. Has worked fine on board for the last 6 years.

It says you cant run Youtube, BBC iPlayer or Google Earth, so not a very fast processor... wouldnt do for me. I have used a Toshiba Qosmio for 3 years, and now use a Samsung NC10.

Looks great for on board use. But for that money I'd go for an eeePC 701 or similar. If you're not familiar with Linux then be prepared for a learning curve, but it's worth the effort.

I didn't spot that. Definitely not worth £219 then. eeePC 701 is cheaper, faster and uses only a little more power (10-12W).
