Living aboard a 1984 12Meter Catalac Sailboat with an Optimus International oven that no longer functions. Apparently the Optimus International model oven is no longer available. Does anyone have any replacement suggestions please? Here are the measurements in case anyone is able to offer guidance. Thank-you.

OPENING IN MM and INCHES
W
635MM [25 inches maximum width]
H 406.4MM [16 inches maximum height not including cooktop]
D 635MM [25 inches maximum depth]

CURRENT OVEN [Optimus International] MEASUREMENT IN MM and INCHES
W
457.2MM [18 inches wide]
H 406.4MM [16 inches high]
D 330.2MM [13 inches deep]

That is a pretty big hole width and depth, but not height. Is it an oven only or oven and hob? If the latter then a 2 burner with oven but no grill such as the Dometic Sunlight is around 400mm high (much the same as your current cooker) and a grill adds about another 100mm. Just do a search on cookers for yachts. They all give the dimensions for you to check against your space.

Thank-you. Understood and agreed about the height. It is Oven only. The issue being there is a built in countertop between the oven and hob.

Look to caravan or motor home suppliers.

You may find more options that are significantly more imaginative that 'marine' options and they might be cheaper.

You appear to have a stand alone hob and a standalone oven, neither of which is gimballed (nor needs to be) but presumably you do need pan restraints for the hob.

Correct me if I am wrong but most marine stoves are designed and built round being gimballed - even though the gimballing is unnecessary for some applications (like yours and ours). Our stove, one unit oven and hob (with grill) was supplied with a gimballing kit, for which we paid and was then discarded. We also have pan restraints (which are used) but could be retrofitted for a hob designed for a motor home.

Think outside the box.

Thank-you Jonathan. You are correct on all counts. Also, nice tip about the caravan or motor home suppliers. Understood and appreciated.

Are you the authers of the vlog Wildlings Sailing? If yes, how are you getting on with immigration in Spain? If not, sorry. Regarding the cooker, I can confirm that a caravan store is a good source except for pot hobs need to be added. Gimballs certainly not.

While caravan suppliers are a good source, the choice is very limited and they are made by the same manufacturers as "marine" cookers - Dometic, Smev, Leisure Products, just not stocked by chandlers because of the limited demand for boats. See here Caravan Ovens & Cookers for probably the widest range
