1200 watt motor

Does anyone know where to get a tidy looking plug and socket for fitting in cockpit . 12 volt DC 1200watt intermitant load. Ideally not too obtrusive as I dont want to keep banging into it.

Its for a windlass that I'm converting to a capstan to help with sheeting genny when single handing and this assembly will need to be removed when boat goes out on charter

You could use...

It will be difficult to find a waterproof plug and socket to carry 100A. You could use a 4-pin 50A socket and use 2 pins for +ve and 2 pins for -ve. Index Marine list a waterproof 50A 4-pin plug & socket which isn't too obtrusive - their code B-1530/4/2, see here for dimensions and spec.

You could try a supplier of truck and trailer fittings, or google 'Anderson lead' or 'Cow bell'. The Anderson lead is the neater of the two, I suppose you can guess what the cow bell looks like.

These leads are temporarily fitted to supply power from truck to trailer when operating a tail lift. I've no idea what the rating is but the cables are generally as thick as your finger.


Come to think of it, I think those very nice men from the AA have a similar fitting on the back of their vans for when they want to give you a jump start.

How suitable they are for the nautical environment.......

I suspect that in having a connector for high currents, waterproof will not be a high priority simply because connections are so big.
If you want a really high current connector then an aircraft parts supplier can sell a "NATO" ground power connector used for starting current on aircraft of the order of 1000 amps. The plug is quite big (long) but the socket can be unobtrusive. good luck olewill
