12 volt vacuum cleaner suggestions please

I have a JCB 12v rechargable wet n' dry portable vacuum which lives permanently on the boat.
Never been used for liquids but it has enough grunt for picking up sawdust and general dirt. It runs for about 20 minutes on a single charge.
Good and handy with no trailing cables etc but for big jobs I use a mains powered industrial Karcher.

All the ones I tried are rubbish. I keep coming back to the fact that Wife with brush & dustpan attachment is the best option.....

Like you i have tried allsorts and conclusion is they are all rubbish.Even giving up on the 12v ones and getting the best out of the tests its still not as good as i would expect.Only good one was one in the military but no idea what it was and far too big for normal pleasure boat use.I guess a 230v one with a decent inverter is the only way as its only for short periods.Maybe it depends what your sucking too.The saloon is carpet and any sand or fluff in there won't come out with any of the 12v ones.Solid floors are fine though.

I had a Black & Decker dirt devil or some such thing rechargeable & it was junk that lasted about five minutes.
Recently bought a 12v cigarette lighter type one from Lidl & it is a cracker....all of 13/14 quid & guaranteed for three years. It does pick up stuff that I'd never be able to get to with a dust pan & brush & it does pick up stuff from the carpet though obviously not as powerfully as a domestic one.I'd wait until they come round again unless you can find them sourced somewhere else.

We bought one of those GTech cordless sweepers when they first came out 3 years ago. (At the NEC boat & caravan show)
It's been very good, albeit it's just a glorified electric "Ewbank", i.e. a revolving brush that flicks the dust into a tray.

Although not a vacuum as such, it's more effective than a dustpan and brush, and a lot less effort.
Good with picking up dog hair from the carpet etc

As GTech have now gone on to compete in the domestic market (trying to compete with Dyson, with prices to match) they don't really make the same sort of thing any longer, however you do often see very similar / equivalent products at Sunday markets, new, for very low prices (£15-£30)

Here's a link I found http://www.mysmartbuy.com/p-270-Gte...oduct+Search&gclid=CMaNjaW6uLUCFVHLtAodZ1QAOA
