12 volt Vacuum cleaner recommendations?

My experience is that on the whole, they are pretty UNLESS using them on solid hard floors. Then they are fine. On any kind of carpet, for anything more than crumbs its definitely easier and quicker to use a dustpan and brush! We've tried many over the years, from sub £10 to well over £100. The only major differences were noise levels and number of accessories supplied!
We're VERY slow learners though and have STILL bought a new one for this year (plonkers)!

We acquired a second hand (free) Black and Decker 12v Dustbuster Flexi Hand Vac:

I've got one of those, it is as you say, OK, but I wouldn't go further.

I removed the batteries out of it and wired it via a 5m lead to a cigarette plug. It works very well and easily cleans up dust/sand/hair/fluff etc. The lead is just wrapped around the base where the batteries used to go. It is easy to empty and comes with a dual purpose tool. If used when the batteries are charging (shore/engine and therefore 14.5v) it is surprisingly powerful compared to more normal battery operated dustbusters.
Interesting idea, I might try that.
