G'day,

I'm looking for a panel to fit the rectangular space available together with switches; I've not found anything useful with mr google & wonder if others have come up with a solution to a similar problem?

Hopeful thanks,

John G

Do a Google Images search for boat switch panel and choose one which suits your space - there are hundreds.

There are a number of people who make switch panels, most are rather cheap and nasty. Thos stocked in chandlers will be maybe 6 or 8 switches with a space for label and a fuse. There is a guy (in Poland, I think) who sells a range of up-market panels that he has developped to cater for typival electrical installations on either sail or motor boats, with graphics and led indicators to show which nav lights you are showing...

If the above suit you, then great - otherwise you will have to consider making up a custom job to fit the available space. With a bit of forethought this is quite simple using either an acrylic sheet or, for greater robustness, aluminium. Gluing a busbar on the reverse of the panel allows simpler distribution and you can choose how it's mounted for convenient access, hinged or secured with Dzeus fasteners for example.

You'll probably get more helpful advice if you give some idea how many switches you need and what shape and size space is available.

Rob.

Thank you, PVB, as indicated I essayed google & found some of the many of the hundreds, mainly abroad.

Thank you, Rob. I have a space of 320mm wide x 120mm high [not depth] & wish to install 18 labelled switches without fusing/breakers. I was, of course, hopeful that someone would direct me to a supplier with whom they were satisified.

Many thanks,

I also found it impossible to get a panel to suit my requirements. Quite a few people here have made their own including me (it is PBO after all). Buy the switches from CPC and get a signwriter to engrave a panel for you. If you don't want to do the wiring yourself, I'm sure an electrician could do it for you. In fact, there may be no wiring to do anyway. Here's mine:

Why without fusing/breakers ?

Many thanks to all of you - seems I need to get searches up to speed before anything else.

I live in Hamburg at the moment and have discovered a large chandler in Bremen called SVB. Their on line catalogue is in English as well as German and I've found their stock range, service and pricing to be very good indeed. They have a good selection of panels and maybe you might find something to suite your needs.

Lovely panel Dipper but i would have made the wiring of the labels much bigger for clarity in poor light (or us with poor vision.) olewill
